Our first day at the tour... Woohoo....

Well everybody, we finally made it to the tour. Stage 5 and it was awesome. Apart from the hot day, the no smoking for hours and the pushy people.

We are staying in a nice hotel, in a lovely area, with lots of no traffic roads and the best part is it is only a few blocks walk from the tour. As usual, I was up early, about 5:30, Kearie slept on. I waited patiently for her to wake, I was eager to go, but no, after she showered, dresses etc, she had to straighten her hair.... Can you beleive it, we are travelling around, living out of suitcases, and she has to straighten her hair!!! Oh to be young again...

On the way to the finish line... that little fat Aussie chick is back...

Our great spot..

We did finally arrive at the finish line, and we got an excellent spot, opposite the podium again. So once the race was televised, we could watch it on the big screens. A s we were sitting there, this Aussie guy came up to us, from the official area. He asked where we were from and then pointed out that I had a ride magazine. I told him yes, my daughter had brought me a subscription for my last 2 birthday's. He said "I own that".. it is a great magazine and I think he was really pleased to see someone bring it from Australia, as it is only published there. Rob Arnold was very nice and I am pleased he prints such a great cycling magazine, otherwise I would have nothing to read.

We met a lovely french girl, called Claire and her mother and later an Aussie Teacher, Terri joined us. Kearie was in her element, she loved all the before finish action, and free giveaways. Personnally I would be just as happy if they skipped that part, it would keep the grabby French at home, Oh and the Spaniards too. The pushy bloke behimd me was Spanish. Unbeleivable. Never mind, this time I stood my ground and when he pushed me, I pushed back. That set him back for a few minutes, and then it started all over again....

Kearie's new friend

We got to see the riders up close and got some great pics. It was a very enjoyable day, several photographers and one TV crew asked Kearie if she would wave her flag for them to film, so she might be in a paper or on the telly somewhere..

Sammy Sanchez, a Spanish rider..

We had an awesome day, then decided to enter the old part of town for dinner. We found a lovely little restaurant, with an English speaking owner, bonus!! The meal was delicious, but as we were dining the rain started, with a vengence. As neither of us had brought a brollie, we were in for a soaking. Kearie was more concerned about this than I was. I told her, we are waterproof, we won't melt.... So we waited for a lull and off we went, but then the rain got heavier and the further we walked the harder it got, but it stopped completely about a block from the hotel, so not all bad.

I have some pics of the river, but they are on Kearie's camera, so I can't show you now

Take care, till later

Lones
