Note: No internet access last night, so am posting this today. i will post today's blog later tonight, another awesome day
Well Kearie and I have had another wonderful day. We went to the tour this morning. The riders were leaving at 12:30, so we got there about 10 am. Well the crowd had already gathered. After much debate we found a spot and Kearie worried the entire morning that we might be in the wrong place to get a good look at the riders when they appeared. We were in a brilliant spot, as you will see. Unfortunately the French were there again. I commented to Kearie that is would be really awesome if there were no other supporters, just us, and she said, and I quote “ Well, I don’t like your chances, unless you swap to supporting curling.”
THe riders lining up, right in front of us...
When the riders came out, we were right where they started to line up, where all the jersey’s were. Yellow, Green, white and Mountain. It was awesome. Kearie was so happy and taken up with it all, we are now planning to go to tomorrow’s stage as well, not one we had planned for.
How jealous are you all now... What a great spot
We picked the car up at the Rouen railway station at about 2:30 and I have been driving on the wrong side of the road all afternoon..... Really not sure how this will go. It is a lovely car, really new and all the bibs and bobs, except reverse apparently. I have been trying all day and I cannot find reverse. The gear stick says it is there, but I think it is lying. We took a wrong turn and I ended up in this narrow dead end lane. I had no idea what I was going to do, without reverse. I ended up going into a wide driveway and letting the car roll backwards until I could negotiate a turn. I am not sure how long that luck will last. I have parked at the hotel tonight, on a slope, so tomorrow I can roll the bloody thing backwards.... Luckily the car has GPS, that has helped with navigating no end. I was a bit concerned at one point, when Kearie said “I kind of know where we are.” I told her I bloody hope so as she was navigating, but we did arrive at the hotel, so she did pretty well. There have been storms all afternoon, really heavy rain, it was all I needed when I was on the wrong side of the road, using my wipers instead of my indicators, my left hand wants to change gears, to the point that at one stage I almost opened the door. It was a bit of a nightmare really, but we did get through it. I have never realised how hard it is to tell how wide your car is, at home I just know, but here it is so different. Kearie had to keep telling me to move to the centre of the road, and I hit the curb about 3 times. As the rain was pelting down and the car in front was sending sheets of water over the windscreen, Kearie was constantly reassuring me of how well I was doing, she reminded me of a mother with a small child. I was smiling to myself, but I burst out laughing when she confessed that all the while she was saying reassuring things she was praying not to die...
We are now in Laon and are both pretty exhausted. I woke at 4:30 this morning and after standing in the sun all morning and driving through hell all afternoon, I think I have had enough for today. It is almost 10 pm and I am about to hit the sack. I hope you enjoy the pics from today.
Cheers for now
Lones
